Privacy Policy
Effective Date: February 2026
Version: 0.9.0 (Alpha)
LogMark is a local-first application. Your notes, entries, and vault data stay on your computer. This policy explains the limited data we do collect and why.
What We Do NOT Collect
- Your vault content. Entries, notes, tasks, ideas, decisions - none of this leaves your machine.
- File contents. We never read, scan, analyze, or transmit the text you write.
- Browsing or activity history. We do not track what you do outside of LogMark.
What We Collect Automatically
The following data is sent to our servers without requiring explicit opt-in:
Installation Event (once)
When the Software runs for the first time, it sends:
- Installation ID: A randomly generated identifier (UUID), not linked to your identity
- App version: e.g., "0.9.0"
- Operating system: e.g., "Windows 11.0 (Build 26100)"
This helps us understand how many people use LogMark and on what systems.
Daily Heartbeat
Once per day, the Software sends:
- Installation ID
- App version
This tells us whether the Software is actively used. No usage details are included unless you opt in to analytics (see below).
Update Check
Once per day, the Software checks for new versions. This request contains no personal data. Only the latest version number is returned.
CDN Resources
The built-in file viewer loads the Monaco editor from a public CDN (cdnjs.cloudflare.com). Only standard HTTP headers are sent. No personal data.
What We Collect With Your Opt-In
Analytics (opt-in during registration)
If you explicitly enable "Help improve LogMark" during registration, the daily heartbeat includes aggregated usage counts:
- Number of entries saved (by type: task, idea, block, decision, log)
- Command usage counts (e.g., how often /today or /search is used)
- Session count and approximate duration
These are aggregate numbers only. No entry text, no file paths, no personal content.
You can disable this at any time through the registration settings.
What We Collect When You Choose
Registration
If you choose to register, you provide:
- Email address: Used for account verification and optional update notifications
- First and last name: Optional, used for personalization
- Preferences: Analytics opt-in and update notification opt-in
Registration is entirely optional. The Software works without it.
Feedback and Bug Reports
If you submit feedback through the Feedback Hub, you provide:
- Bug descriptions and feature requests (text you write)
- Optionally: system logs and system information
You control what you include in each submission.
Feature Voting
If you vote on feature requests, we record your vote (linked to your Installation ID).
Uninstall Telemetry
When you uninstall LogMark via the Windows installer, a lightweight process sends your Installation ID and app version to our server. This helps us understand retention. No other data is sent. If the network request fails, the uninstall proceeds normally.
Data Storage and Security
- Your vault data: Stored on your local disk in standard Markdown files. We have no access to it.
- Bootstrap configuration: Stored in
%APPDATA%\LogMark\bootstrap.jsonon your machine. Contains your Installation ID, registration status, and preferences. - Server-side data: Installation IDs, registration info, and telemetry are stored on our servers. We use standard security practices to protect this data.
- MCP server: Operates entirely locally via standard input/output. No network communication.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties.
We may share aggregated, anonymized statistics (e.g., total user count, most-requested features) publicly. These cannot identify individual users.
Data Retention
- Telemetry data: Retained for as long as needed for product improvement.
- Registration data: Retained until you request deletion.
- Your vault data: Entirely under your control on your local disk. Uninstalling LogMark does not delete your vault files.
Your Rights
- Access: Contact us to request a copy of data associated with your Installation ID.
- Deletion: Contact us to request deletion of your server-side data.
- Opt-out: Disable analytics in your registration settings. Basic telemetry (install event, heartbeat with version only) cannot be disabled separately, but contains no personal information beyond a random UUID.
- Uninstall: Remove the Software at any time. Your vault files remain.
Children
LogMark is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy with new versions. Material changes will be noted in release notes. Continued use constitutes acceptance.
